The last half a century has been a golden age for most of the developed nations. The party ended for Japan about 2 decades ago and it ended for the US over the past decade. <br /><br />My point is that Singapore's party too will end in the near future and it's helpful to brace oneself for the onslaught. Things are bad in the US, but bad in a weird way. Those who are left behind are not necessarily worse off than the rest of the world. Life for the next generation definitely better than that for the earlier generations in absolute terms. But it's not good enough.
